Imphal, December 10 2024:
Thirteen civil society organisations extended greetings to the people on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of implementing ILP system under Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation, 1873 in Manipur and further paid respect to those who were martyred and injured in pursuit of the demand for implementation of ILP system.
A joint release issued by IPSA, PANDM, ACOAM Lup, IPAK, KSA, LOYA Lup, KANGLA MEL KIL, CLK, ERDO, AKSIL, MIKL and SWA informed that the 5th anniversary of ILP system in Manipur was held in a simple manner at IPSA office due to the present unrest in the state.
Floral tributes were also paid to Sapam Robinhood, who was killed in the ILP movement.
The release recalled the history of ILP movement in the state and its subsequent implementation on December 9, 2019 while contending that the ILP system has not been effective enough even after 5 years of implementation.
"Good laws, acts and rules are meaningless if those enforcing them aren't sincere," it added.
Demanding authorities concerned to update NRC for Manipur, the bodies stressed the need to exert pressure to the central government to end Kuki aggression in the state.
According to the organisations, simply boycotting Home Minister Amit Shah through mere words will not suffice.
"Every images of Amit Shah displayed in different areas should be brought down to convey a clear message that people are against his evil plans.
Only then will the boycott be effective," it reasoned.
In connection with International Human Rights Day, the release urged the people to demand every right enshrined in the charter of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
It further denounced the re imposition of AFSPA in areas under six police stations and demanded its withdrawal at the earliest.
Appealing to the people to stop supporting irresponsible MLAs, ministers and chief minister, the release noted that people need to stop voicing out their sufferings and the grievances of displaced persons staying in relief camps if they continue to support the irresponsible leaders.
The 13 bodies further urged the people to stop believing in sweet promises and instead awaken from their slumber to save their land.
