Birth anniversary of Laikhuram Khagendrajit to be held

Imphal, September 10 2020: The Khagendrajit Research Committee will be observing the 136th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Laikhuram Khagendrajit on September 13 at the residence of Laikhuram Niranjoy at Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi in Imphal East.

During the British rule, when the people of Manipur were immensely suffering, Laikhuram Khagendrajit demanded relief from water tax, road tax of cycles and also to induct common people in the State Darbar making it the first political revolution in Manipur.

He also took a major role in the promotion of Meetei religion and Script during his time, said Khagendrajit Research Committee in a release.

Dr Sarata Chandra Longzomba will be delivering a lecture on the life and works of the freedom fighter.
