FAMILY OF the a eight-year old HIV positive child have been asked to pay ex-gratia which the family has got for the dead of his father who was a rifleman in Manipur Rifles and died in an accident when he came back from election duty in 1999, said authorities of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Imphal east district today.
Speaking at a press conference here at its office at Deulahand Children Home, member of the committee secretary of the CWC, Imphal east, Keisham Pradipkumar said that the mother of the child living with HIV had also killed by the dreaded disease later after the dead of her of his father, the child lived with his mother at a rented house.
But after his mother's dead he has been living at the orphan home at Duelahland.
Government released the ex-gratia of the rifleman amounting to Rs 1.5 lakhs of on November 14 last.
While handing over the ex-gratia amount to family it has been mentioned that the amount should be distributed between mother of the deceased rifleman, his wife and his only child in equal amount of Rs.50,000 each.
Meanwhile, the CWC, Imphal east is of the opinion that the child has the right to get the amount which would get by her deceased mother.
So, the family of the rifleman should pay Rs.one lakh to the child.
The member secretary further said that the committee has asked to open a bank current account in the child by a committee consisting of the member of the family of the rifleman, CWC, Imphal east, Women Action for Development, MNP (positive) within seven days and deposit the amount.
The child who is lodging at the orphan home, Deulahland has been treating since October 6 this year under the initiative of the MNP (positive).
