Imphal, April 09 2019:
All necessary preparations for the 17th Lok Sabha election which is scheduled to be held on April 11 and April 18 in the State have been completed.
Speaking to media persons at his Lamphelpat office this afternoon, CEO PK Singh informed that polling officials assigned election duty in Outer Manipur PC have started leaving for their respective destinations since yesterday together with security forces.
Arrangements are being made to airlift polling officials by helicopter to 124 polling stations located in interior areas of Churachandpur, Ukhrul, Chandel and Tamenglong districts.
But the helicopter which would be used as air ambulance in the election still remains grounded at Silchar due to the inclement weather, PK Singh said.
Regarding threats made by militants under SoO pact to villagers to vote for candidates supported by them, the CEO said that Central paramilitary forces would be deployed at critical and vulnerable polling stations.
There would be a polling station in Imphal East district which would be exclusively manned by handicapped polling officials and this initiative is aimed at encouraging disabled voters to participate in the election process, he said.
While Assam Rifles have sealed Indo-Myanmar border in view of the Lok Sabha election, both Assam Rifles and Army have been put on alert, he said.
