Ukhrul, December 08 2024:
Following the notable success of her first Tangkhul film "Zingthanwo", Philayung Jajo took on her second project with Meiphung Productions, the action-thriller Mashunwo' .
In this film, she plays a lead female character, a remarkable achievement in a genre where such roles for women are rare within Tangkhul cinema.
In an interview with The People's Chronicle in Ukhrul town, Philayung Jajo shared her excitement about her latest movie as well as her inspiring journey from being a freelance model to a prominent Tangkhul actress.
At just 22 years old, Jajo, who is also the reigning Miss Manipur second runners-up, has made significant strides in an acting career, marking a unique presence in Tangkhul film production.
Hailing from Apong village in Ukhrul district and brought up in Imphal, Jajo discovered her passion for acting at a young age.
She recalled that as a small girl, she participated in various skits and dramas, which helped her nurture her love for performance a passion that led her to pursue opportunities in modelling, where she gained recognition.
"In 2022, I participated in Miss Manipur and won the second runners-up title," she revealed.
Jajo's big break came during the Hunphun Luira festival in 2020.Participating in a beauty pageant, she secured the first runners-up position, catching the attention of Meiphung Productions (MP) COO Seema Awungshi, who was a judge at the event.
Both Seema and Aning, the CEO of MP, offered her a lead role in their film Zingthanwo' .
The film's success propelled her into the spotlight and established her as a risingstar in the industry.
Reflecting on her journey, Jajo expressed gratitude for the opportunities she has received.
"I'm thankful to both 'achon' Seema and 'amei' Aning for believing in my talent and giving me the opportunity," she said.
With her second film Mashunwo' all set for a red carpet premiere in Ukhrul town on December 13, she passionately urged the public to attend, emphasising the film's important themes.
"Today, justice has become a scarce commodity in society, but this is what we all must stand up for," she explained adding that this movie is about injustice done to the hapless, especially women, in the form of scams, trafficking, or other crimes.
"Through this movie, I challenge you to decide what is the best course of action you will take," she further called the attention of the public, highlighting the film's focus on social issues and the need for collective awareness and response.
