Moreh, November 08 2021: Moreh Battalion Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) recovered large quantities of explosives and warlike stores near Moreh sector of the Indo-Myanmar border on Monday.

In a release, PRO IGAR (S) informed that the explosives were recovered while carrying out an area domination patrol along the Indo-Myanmar Border (IMB).

The alert troops detected well concealed boxes hidden inside thick foliage.

On closer inspection, large consignment of prefabricated Improvised Explosive Device (IED) weighing around 250 Kg was recovered along with a large quantity of other explosives and warlike stores.

Recovery of the explosives came in the backdrop of tight security measures taken up around Moreh town in Tengnoupal district for the past few days following escalation of violence in Tamu (district) township of Myanmar.

Mention may be made series of bomb blast and gun battle erupted between resistance forces (Tamu PDF) and Myanmar Junta forces during the last few days.

Following the escalation of violence, intense security measures were initiated along the porous border.

Personnel of Assam Rifles guarded the border to check and prevent cross border movement.

All possible border crossing points had been sealed by the AR.

The troops of 43 AR patrolled general area of Indo-Myanmar Border near Betuk village, which is about 7-8 km from Moreh Police Station on Sunday.

At about 8 pm, the patrol party observed a movement of two Kenbo Bikes approaching from Myanmar side through the jungle tracks.

One being challenged, the bikers fled towards Myanmar side.

Seeing the security forces chasing them, the bikers dropped some boxes in the jungle.

It is suspected that the explosives are either to be used against security force in relation with upcoming state election or may be used against Myanmar Junta Forces by People's Defence Forces of Myanmar.

As per information from Moreh Police Station, the cache contains 197 IEDs weighing 500 grams each, 33 IEDs of 3kg apiece, four IEDs weighing 4 kg per piece and nine IEDs weighing 5 kg per piece.

It also recovered large quantities of Cortex, an IED making material.

The recovered explosives were handed over to Moreh Police Station for further necessary legal action.
