Imphal, September 08 2023:
Subscribing to the call of the people especially youth and mothers to all civil society organisations (CSOs) to unite, the Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS), Manipur has said that it is not the ethics of any CSO to consider themselves as the only group representing the people nor should they undermine the voice of the people.
In a statement signed by its information and public relation secretary Nerish Mangang, FOCS said that they also don't support the 48 hour public curfew being imposed by TAKDAL.
Saying that the Federation doesn't want to take any credit from the ongoing movement to protect Manipur, FOCS continued that CSOs are here only because of the people.
The only objective of FOCS is to extend full support to the movement of the people to keep the unity and integrity of the State intact, it added.
Stating that engaging in blame games and one group undermining another should be avoided, FOCS maintained that unity among the people and organisations is imperative to emerge victorious from the ongoing conflict.
The Federation went on to state that all political leaders including MLAs and Ministers must work together irrespective of their ideology and affiliation till the ongoing crisis is over in the larger interest of the State.
The political leaders must know that there will be no place for them to contest elections again if they remain silent like a coward when Manipur is burning, FOCS cautioned.
There will be no point in waging war if there is no Manipur and the lives of Manipuris couldn't be protected, the Federation added.
What people want is for every organisation to uplift one another instead of driving a wedge among themselves, FOCS said.
It further said that the Federation endorses the call given by Thawai Meerel Women Wing during a meeting at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen on September 7 to all CSOs to unite but FOCS wasn't involved in taking any resolution during the meeting.
The Federation also said that they don't support the public curfew being imposed by TAKDAL on September 8 and 9 .
