Imphal, August 08 2015 :
The Manipur government has taken up some steps, although belatedly, regarding the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit system in the state.
However, the activists and supporters of the demand for the implementation of Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) continue to organise all forms of agitation in a show of hardening their stance on the issue.
Saturday witnessed widespread agitations at various places.
On Friday night, women volunteers had taken out torchlight processions with slogan shouting at various places.
The Forum for Demand of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur formed by 16 clubs of Thongju areas had also carried out ILP agitations at Thongju part I and II.
On Saturday a large number of men, women, students and activists blocked half of the national highway 102 from Kakwa to Manipur university gate.
They displayed placards and shouted slogans.
At the end of the protest, the participants formed human chain from Kakwa market to the MU gate.
Waving red flags they shouted slogans for the implementation of the ILP in Manipur.
In a press release S Bhuban, convener of the Forum said that the people of Manipur are agitating for the ILP for the sake of posterity since the indigenous people may be wiped out of the earth in the foreseeable future.
He said that if the campaign is successful the Manipuris will survive.
If it is botched the people will be wiped out through anguish.
Robinhood will be the guiding light.
Killing and torture cannot suppress the people's movement.
People will teach their elected members when they turn out to be enemies, the release said.
There were similar protests at Uripok Sorbon Thingel, Wangkhei Meihoubam Leikai and other places.
Besides, there were sit-in protests of parents and students at Anand Singh Higher Secondary School and other schools.
