Imphal, December 07 2024:
All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO) and four other organisations appealed to the public to join the mass rally to be organised on December 10 against re-imposition of AFSPA in the jurisdiction of six police stations.
The mass rally is being organised with the call to end the killings in state while commemorating the International Human Rights Day.
AMUCO, Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Manipur, All Manipur Women Voluntary Association, Committee on Human Rights and Manipuri Students' Federation are jointly organising the rally.
The five organisations appealed to all sections of public to join the mass rally by suspending the day's activities.
According to AMUCO general secretary and convenor of the five organisations Pratap Leishangthem, the mass rally will begin from THAU ground, Thangmeiband at 10 am and culminate at Khuman Lampak after passing through Nagamapal, Samu Makhong of Khwairamband Keithel and the northern side of Kangla moat.
He appealed to all sections of the society including students to join the mass rally by suspending the day's activities and take part in bringing unity of the people.
Slogans to be raised during the rally will be 'Manipur cannot be destroyed', 'Self-determination is our right', 'Repeal AFSPA' and 'Stop terrorism', he added.
Expressing deep concern over the prevailing situation in the state, Pratap said that the Government of India is waging a big war to divide ethnic communities of Manipur without using any weapon.
However, the December 10 rally will be a historic one and it will give a big message to those trying to divide Manipur, he added.
COHR chairman and spokesperson of the five organisations Phulindro Konsam also said that December 10 is International Human Rights Day but the people of Manipur are yet to get their entitled rights as killings and torture under AFSPA continues unabated since the imposition of the draconian law.
He said that the rally is being organised to demand the repeal of AFSPA and end all forms of terrorism in the wake of the killing of six innocent women and children in Jiribam.
