Union MoS Sudarshan to participate in Rani Gaidinliu birth centenary celebration

Imphal, October 07 2015: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Sudarshan Bhagat on Wednesday said Rani Gaidinliu is a "highly regarded freedom fighter" .

The minister arrived in Imphal on Wednesday.

He will participate in Rani Gaidinliu birth centenary celebration in Senapati district on Thursday (October 8) .

Rani Gaidinliu deserves a lot of respect from everyone, Sudarshan told journalists at the State BJP office, Nityaipak Chuthek here.

BJP Scheduled Tribe Morcha National Vice President Ramesh Chand said freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu spent long prison years when she was still very young.

"Rani led a struggle against the British here and we're celebrating her birth centenary to honour her," Ramesh said.

"The BJP ST Morcha has also prepared to celebrate her birth centenary in various States.

We must remember all her deeds," Ramesh added.

Parliamentary Steering Committee on SC & ST Chairman Faggan Singh Kulaste hailed Rani Gaidinliu as a freedom fighter who had sacrificed her life for the country.

She has to be respected and her works must be remembered by all people, he urged.

Manipur BJP unit President Th Chaoba informed the journalists that Prime Minister Narendra Modi or BJP National President Amit Shah is likely to visit Manipur on November 24 next.

Chaoba expressed his keen interest in erecting a statue of Rani Gaidinliu in the Parliament complex, New Delhi.

He said Rani Gaidinliu has to be revered.
