Tamenglong hails Naga Peace Pact

Organizations of Tamenglong on Friday observed a thanksgiving day hailing the "Indo-Naga" Peace Accord at Haipou Jadonang Park, Tamenglong District Headquarters.
On the occasion, Hohoi (howling) was performed by all led by Inriangluang Village (old Tamenglong) as mark of triumph.
The villagers also submitted a memorandum through the district collector appreciating the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The memorandum was signed by Church leaders, elected members, social workers, leaders of various organisations and other activists.

Dr Rev NH Adui, General Secretary Zeliangrong Baptist Church Council North East India released balloons welcoming the "Indo-Naga" Peace Accord.
A huge crowd including students gathered at the park and shouted slogans like "Isak Chishi Swu-Ringtelo"; Thuingaleng Muivah- Ringtelo"; Zeliangrong-Ringtelo", etc.
Two minute silent prayer was also observed for the departed souls of the Naga "warriors" who had lost their lives for the cause of Naga movement.
In his introductory speech, Rev Kaiba Riamei, Member for Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) said that Naga movement began here by a Zeliangrong man named Haipou Jadonang in 1929 .
Haipou Jadonang resisted the British in imposing House Tax in the Hills and forced labours for the touring officials.
He refused to pay house tax to the British and did not participate in any executive works.
President of Zeliangrong Baudi Manipur Thomas Kamei expressed his profound gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the collective Naga leaders for the accord.
Thousands of people from every corner of Tamenglong participated in the gathering and rally kicked off from Mini Stadium and ended at Haipou Jadonang Park.
All houses were decorated and lighted with candles on Friday night.
