Training / production on 'Khamba Thoibi' begins

As a part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav and under Department of Art and Culture, Malom Tulihal Awang Leikai Nupi Chaokhat Thourang Lup launched a training-cum-production project based off Hijam Anganghal's epic poem Khamba Thoibi on Thursday.
The inaugural function presided over by Theatre Centre Manipur chairman Naba Wareppa (Padmashree) was attended by Art and Culture deputy director G Dhramadas Sharma as chief guest and Manipur State Shumang Leela Council lifetime secretary Sougrakpam Hemanta as guest of honour.
In his speech, G Dharmadas highlighted the different art forms of Manipur and informed that artistes have a vital role to play for the preservation and popularisation of these art forms.
Urging artistes and theatre groups to work sincerely and preserve the unique art forms for the future generations, he also called for production in tune with the grants provided by the department.
While pointing out that Chief Minister Artistesing gi Tengbang (CMAT) is helping the artistes when they suffer from serious illness, S Hemanta informed that pension scheme for artistes was also launched recently.
The initiatives taken up by the government for the artistes are highly commendable as they are certain to mitigate financial and health issues faced by the artistes, he maintained and expressed hope of such continuous help from the government.
