Imphal, June 07 2015 :
A man and a woman from Assam who are legally married at a court but denied by the girls' family and presently taking shelter in Manipur had sought protection from Human Right Law Network, Manipur.
It is also informed that a kidnapping case was registered at Dispur Police against the man by the woman's family and the police have been searching for them ever since.
Shahbaz Ahmed aged 24 and Archiya Habib aged 19 got married on April 24, 2015 at the office of the marriage officer Kamrup District, Assam.
However they stayed with their respective parents after the court marriage.
Besides Archriya Habib alleged that her parents physically assaulted her while she was home and threatened to kill her husband when her father arrived in Manipur to take them home some days back.
She also alleged that her father had also sent his employer an MP from Assam who owns 3 private hospitals to take them home.
It is also informed that no written assurance was given to the couple for safety when Shahbaz Ahmed asked his father in law for guaranteeing a social marriage.
On top of that the girl's father had threatened Shahbaz Ahmed of dire consequences openly when the later met one of Shahbaz's friends in Imphal where they are presently taking shelter.
In an interaction with the media, the couple alleged that the MP from Assam is using political influence and the police in Imphal had also reportedly threatened the family where they are taking shelter.
The couple said that they are married consensually and said that they want to live a peaceful life.
It was a clear case of showing disrespect to the due process of law and shameless interference by the powerful MP.
Indications are that the law court shall not take a lenient view of it.
