Jiri-Tupul rail line likely by 2018

Jiribam-Tupul section of the Jiribam- Imphal Railway Project may be completed by 2018 considering the work progress achieved so far.
Foundation stone of the railway project was laid in 2004 before the railway line construction work started in 2007 .
The railway line construction work is making good progress and it is doing better than a similar project being executed in J and K, said an official source.
Being a hilly terrain, Jiribam-Tupul section of the railway project consists of a number of tunnels whose total length is 51 Kms.
Nonetheless, the work of drilling tunnels has been going on speedily.
Under Chief Minister O Ibobi's instruction, the railway line construction work is being reviewed every month.
Construction work of Jiribam-Tupul railway line is likely to be completed in 2017 and train service up to Tupul may be launched from 2018, said the official.
On the other hand, Ibobi held a meeting with Power Department officials and representatives of different companies working for Power Department at New Delhi today and discussed completing all power projects being executed in Manipur within the stipulated periods.
