Imphal, March 07 2012:
While extending its greetings to the women of the state on the occasion of International Women's Day, the proscribed UG group Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has urged all the classes of women in the state for unity.
In a statement, RPF observed that women in Manipur are divided into three classes: illiterate, literate but unemployed and employed.
Today, these three classes of women are not getting along with each other.
Women in working class and literate women lack participation on social issues and all those women who are making best efforts in this regard are illiterate.
History itself has shown how the women in Manipur took important roles not only in family matters but also in social and political issues since times immemorial.
They fought for Manipur on many occasions against Burmese, British and now the Indian Security forces
When women in other parts of the world observes the day to free themselves from the oppression of high class employers who forced them to work longer for a lesser salary, women in Manipur, however, observed the day to free themselves from the oppression of the colonial ruler.
In such situation, all the classes of women in the state should unite and struggle for an independent Manipur and self determination, RPF exhorted, adding that this is the only way to liberate themselves from the oppression.
