Imphal, October 06 2021:
Reacting to Chief Minister N Biren's statement of terming his (Joy) observation that the NIA's investigation into the death of Athuan Abonmai could be successful if the CM, who is also the state's Home Minister in-charge were to take charge as the head of the state, as useless words; senior politician O Joy has remarked whether the CM's words could be considered useful.
O Joy made the statement while offering prayers on the last day of Langban Tarpan, along with commemoration of the flag hoisting event of Maharaj Gambhir Singh and Narsing at Leishang Hiden, Canchipur on Wednesday morning.
Speaking to newspersons, Joy contended that the present BJP-led coalition government is a government interested only in lip service, paper and advertisement.
An example of this is the non-repairing of the Canchipur-Lilong road for the last 5 years.
At one time, Prime Minister Narendra Modi boasted that BJP will do everything in 5 years which the Congress government could not perform in its 15 years of rule.
However, this has now become one of the many lip-services of the government, he added.
Stating that it was regrettable that Indian Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu did not make any statement in connection with the death of Athuan Abonmai, during his visit to the state on Tuesday; the senior politician asserted that the suspension of Tamenglong DC and SP is said to have been delayed due to the inquiry being carried out by NIA.
However, the result of the inquiry cannot be fully presented as long as CM Biren continues to sit in his post.
Thus, one can only question the validity of CM Biren's statements if the CM disregards his (Joy) statement.
Appreciating the CM's honest admission that part of the blame in Athuan's death lays on his (Biren) shoulders; Joy, however, urged the CM to resign on moral ground.
Additionally, Biren's act of shirking responsibility by claiming that the Tamenglong DC and SP did not inform him of Athuan's abduction and killing is unfortunate, considering the CM went on to play a football match after Athuan was abducted, the senior politician remarked.
