Imphal, August 06 2015:
The media fraternity in Manipur has expressed regret over halting publication of dailies and production of news bulletins in local electronic media on August 6 due to the intense nature of bandh called by Student Wing of JCILPS.
Normal publication and production will continue from Friday onwards.
This was decided during a meeting of Editors and members of AMWJU on Thursday.
In a joint press statement, Editors Guild, Manipur and All Manipur Working Journalists Union said the meeting discussed the public importance of the issue confronting the state as well as the inconvenience being faced by the media houses in bringing out publications and news bulletins.
Reporters, journalists and non-journalist employees were not given unfettered movement during the general strike.
At some places, some activists had even mocked and given objectionable interference while discharging their duties.
The crucial decision was arrived at after considering the fact that many workers of press including Editors, Sub Editors, Reporters, DTP, Machine men, plate makers, distributors, circulation personnel and other related workers could not reach their offices.
Regretting and apologizing for the halt, both the media bodies once again appeal all to allow free passage to reporters and other media related personnel so that we can bring out publication and bulletins uninterrupted.
