A combined team of Imphal West and Imphal East district police arrested an individual identified as Lourembam Ingo Singh (40) s/o (L) L Joy Singh of Kongba Laishram Leikai from the residence of one Thangjam Chinglemba Singh (39) s/o Th Nandakishore Singh of Kongpal Chanam Leikai and seized a huge quantity of liquor yesterday.
This was stated by Imphal West SP Themthing Ngashangva during a media briefing at Porompat police station today.
He said that the police were able to recover 1080 half litre bottles of Officer Choice Blue, 1032 half litre bottles and 228 one litre bottles of McDowell, 60 one litre bottles and 94 half litre bottles of Blenders Pride, 1920 half litre bottles of Old Monk Delux, 1440 bottles of Tuborg beer and 1548 bottles of Kingfisher beer from the individual.
During interrogation, Lourembam Ingo revealed that the liquors were brought from Guwahati to be distributed to various dealers in Imphal and kept at the godown belonging to Thangjam Chinglemba.
On the other hand, Narcotic Cell Imphal East team conducted patrolling duty in and around Lamlong bazaar area at around 10.50 am today, and arrested one Lushi (name changed) (26) w/o Letminlal of Churachandpur.
The police team also seized six soap caps containing altogether 96 grams of heroin powder from her possession (worth around Rs 11,52,000), he added.
Replying to a query about the incident of irate locals thrashing a VDF personnel at Nongmeibung on February 4 for assaulting a commercial vehicle driver who refused to pay money, the SP said that a case has been registered in connection with the incident and three personnel were produced before the Court.
Two of them have been remanded while one of the personnel has been released on bail, he added.
Imphal East SP, K Meghachandra was also present during the meet.
