Calling attention of the Prime Minister and the Centre, former President Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and Ex-Finance Minister of Manipur L Lalit has requested the Defence Minister AK Anthony for arranging a special meeting with the PM for redressing the public grievances of the people of the state.
In a letter to the Minister, the former president, MPCC quoted the present pitiable conditions of the National Highways in the state which are the only lifelines for the people of the state and the extortion activities being carried out by many anti-social elements along the NHs.
He also informed the Minister about the hardships faced by the people of the state due to the ongoing indefinite blockades.
Pointing out the need for upgrading NH 37 into four lane highway and improve the condition of the highway, the former MPCC president in his letter stated, "taking in view of these factual grounds as stated above, the Hon'ble Prime Minister, is fervently urged to look into this serious case and arrange to handover/assign/entrust the improvement and construction work of NH 37 (Imphal-Jiribam) to the Engineering Cell of the Indian Army, only then the work may be completed satisfactorily and on time" .
