Imphal, November 04 2019: In response to the news published in some local dailies that Manipur account for 50pc of violence in North East region in 2018, W Basu Singh, SP/NAB, PRO, Police Department clarified that the number of extremist related incident has reduced drastically in the State as compared to the past years due to the proactive counter insurgency measures taken up by Manipur Police along with security forces deployed in the State.

As per report, the numbers of extremists arrested by the police of other North Eastern States in 2018 is less than the numbers of militants/extremists arrested by the Manipur Police and security forces operating in Manipur alone, the SP said and added that only 127 extremist related incidents were recorded in 2018 as compared to 167 and 233 in 2017 and 2016 respectively.
