Mera Hou-Chongba festival to be held on Oct 27

The age-old traditional festival of Mera Hou-Chongba will be celebrated on October 27, the Titular king said on Sunday.
Delegations from both the valley and hills will take part in the festival to be organised by the Thousil Lup, Sana Konung, titular king Leishemba Sanajaoba said at a press meet at the Royal Palace here.
Expressing his desire to keep the age-old traditional festival alive, the titular king said the main function will be held at the Royal Palace, Palace Compound and Kangla Fort.
Leishemba Sanajaoba stated that Mera Hou-Chongba is an age-old traditional festival jointly celebrated by the people of the hills and valley since prehistoric time.
The celebration will start at the sacred Kangla Men Tongpham where the coronation of the first known Meetei King, Nongda Lairen Pakhangba took place in 33 A D.Delegations from both the hills and valley will join a grand feast at the Royal Palace to mark the occasion, the titular king said.
He said several people from the hill districts have already confirmed that they will take part in the festival.
