MARSAC reports on Manipur flood

Imphal, August 04 2015:
Heavy incessant rains in Manipur have led to inundation causing landslides in many parts of the State where Thoubal, Bishnupur, Chandel, Imphal East, Imphal West and Churachandpur Districts are reported to be affected, confirmed a report by Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC), an autonomous institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Govt of Manipur.
Flood Disaster Team is keeping a constant watch on the flood situation and checking the satellite date coverage over the flood affected areas and that Radarsat-2 data of August 2, 2015 was programmed and analysed, added the report.
Satellite date is rectified and inundation layer is extracted.
Further, inundation map was composed for part of Manipur state.
The inundation layer is integrated with district boundaries layer for extracting district-wise inundation statistics.
The report also confirmed that inundation include only rain water accumulation/water in low lying areas while districts with inundation less than 1000 ha are not included in the statistics.
