Imphal, June 04 2022:
Chief minister N Biren Singh has assured that the state government will take strong measures to give new life to the destroyed forest tracts of the state and prevent further destruction.
In his message on World Environment Day 2022, N Biren expressed heartfelt wishes for happiness, peace and prosperity of all the people of Manipur.
N Biren further said that our state is currently facing an environmental emergency due to unprecedented loss of forest cover, due to human interference on a massive scale in the once lush green forests.
Meeting this challenge requires the support of one and all for channelising thought and action towards appreciation of the danger to the future of our young generations on account of activities propelled by short-sighted ambitions; understanding the impact of environmentally degriding human activities, such as acute water distress, floods, lake siltation, voluntarism in giving up of such activities; adoption of and transition to new livelihoods, etc., he observed.
World Environment Day, held annually on June 5 since 1974, is the largest global platform for environmental public outreach.
Observed by millions of people across the world, the theme for this year is 'Only One Earth'.
It calls for collective, transformative action on a global scale to celebrate, protect and restore our planet, he added.
"I urge individuals and civil society to come out and become pivotal advocates, awareness-raisers, and supporters to help ensure this beautiful state remains green and habitable", he exhorted.
