NPO proposes Moses Chalai for chief secretary post

The Naga People's Organisation (NPO) wrote a letter to the ministry of home affairs on Friday to appoint Naga IAS officer as the chief secretary of Manipur and even suggested name of the officer.
In the letter addressed to Union home minister Amit Shah submitted through the Senapati deputy commissioner, the NPO requested appointment of K Moses Chalai (IAS-MT cadre ofl990) as chief secretary of Manipur.
The post is yet "to be filled after the transfer of the incumbent chief secretary, it said adding that K Moses Chalai, being a senior officer, is eligible for the post.
According to the NPO letter, Moses Chalai has served in various capacities and has extensive administrative experience and is very much capable of holding the post of chief secretary of Manipur.
He is an officer with integrity, it added.
There had been senior Naga officers in the past who could have been appointed as chief secretary.
Unfortunately, all of them such as Ameising Luikham and Ramnganing Muivah were overlooked and diverted to other posts outside the state.
Officers from the Meetei and Kuki communities have held the prestigious post, the letter said adding that appointment of K Moses Chalai will instil faith among the Nagas that appointment to the post is non-partisan, especially towards the Naga officers.
