Imphal, September 02 2020: A 14-year-old girl, who was reported missing since yesterday, has been found in an unconscious state early this morning at a roadside pond at Mayang Imphal Maibam Pali Yengdoupat under Mayang Imphal Police Station.

After morning walkers saw her lying there, they informed the police and she was rushed to RIMS hospital.

According to a police source, the girl is suspected to have been sexually assaulted and dumped there in the pond.

Hearing the news, angry locals of the girl dismantled the house of a suspect who is said to be her boyfriend today afternoon at Mayang Imphal Heibongmakhong.

Her boyfriend is said to be on the run.

Police fired tear gas shells and mock bombs to control the angry mob.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed at the area to prevent any further untoward incident.

Meanwhile, a forensic team conducted medical examinations of the girl at the ICU Ward, RIMS where she is presently treated.

A case has been registered at Mayang Imphal Police Station in connection with the incident.

People of the girl's locality are holding an emergency meeting with regard to the incident.

The boyfriend identified as Md Arish alias Maja Khan (19) s/o Shikandar of Heibongmakhong Mathak Leikai in Mayang-Imphal has been arrested by the police at around 6 pm, according to a late report.
