Legal Aid Clinic opened at Chandel

With the aim to provide free and competent legal services to the people of Chandel, a Legal Aid Clinic was inaugurated and dedicated to the people of the district by MLA of 41-Chandel A/C St Nunghlung Victor Anal, while attending a one-day legal Awareness programme cum opening of Legal Aid Clinic, today.
Prior to the commencement of the awareness programme held at the at super market complex of Chandel district headquarters, the MLA accompanied by other officials concerned the inaugurated the office of the newly opened Legal Aid Clinic located at Treasury Road, Japhou Bazar.
Later speaking as Chief Guest of the programme, MLA Nunghlung pointed out that the land records of Chandel that are still lying in the office of SDC, Waikhong under Thoubal district, the objection raised by several Chandel based organizations to the move of the Govt to acquire land at Thangbung Mino, grievances faced by the pensioners and delay in the construction work along Pallel-Chandel road are some of the major areas of concerned that the newly opened legal Aid Clinic must begin to work on.

Advocate RT Rebirthson, who was present on the occasion as Guest of Honour, disclosed that Chandel District BAR Association would file PIL in the court if the Government of India and other authorities concerned fail to expedite the road construction works along the stretch from Pallel to district headquarters of Chandel within 30 days from today.
Participating in the awareness programme as resources persons, Advocate Ch Momon Singh spoke on the role of Para Legal volunteers and Right to Education as enshrined under the Constitution of India and its connected laws while Advocate K Rabei Singh deliberated on the topic of 'Customary Rights and its value under the Constitution of India and its connected laws' .
The programme organized by District Legal Services Authority, Chandel was also attended by District Secretary, Legal Services Authority Chandel W Tonen Meitei, Advocate and Chairman of Japhou Bazar Board Js Angam Anal as the President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Representatives of various CSOs, NGOs and village Chiefs were also present on the occasion.
