Court summons rape accused

Imphal, January 02 2014: Human Rights Law Network (HRNL) has informed that the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today took cognizance of the sensational case where a young woman namely RK Ratanmala Devi was brutally murdered after having raped by the accused identified as Soibam Dhanabir Singh of Ningombam Mayai Leikai, Imphal West district on the intervening night of January 29 and 30, 2010 .

In a press release, the HRNL said consequent upon taking of the cognizance, the court has ordered for the appearance of the accused on January 22 and added that mother of the victim had filed a Writ Petition in the High Court of Manipur seeking for speedy trial of the case so as to punish the culprit at the earliest.

It also stated that the accused had given his confessional statement as to the murdering of the victim before the learned Judicial Magistrate First Class, Imphal.
