National Nutrition Week observance begins

As observed in other parts of the country, the week long observance of "33rd National Nutrition Week" kicked off from today at State Bal Bhavan located at Khuman Lampak here today.
Organised by Social Welfare Department of the state, the inaugural function of the observance was attended by Social Welfare Minister A..KMirabai as chief guest; Principal Secretary (Social Welfare) S..KDev Verma, IAS, as president and Joint Secretary of Social Welfare Department H.Rupachandra as guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister A..KMirabai stated that with the main aim to provide nutritional food to children, pregnant women and elderly persons in India, the initiative of observing the National Nutrition Week was started in the year 1982 .
In order to supply the essential and adequate nutrition through daily intake of food, a big role needs to be played by Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs), supervisors, District Officers (Dos) and Anganwadi workers and helpers in the state, Mirabai said, and appealed to the people of the state to work together so that a healthy environment can be created and balanced diet is supplied to all sections of the people of all age groups.
The State can prosper in all fields only when the people of the state join hands and work co operatively with one another, the Minister further said.
As a part of the inaugural function of the observance, a workshop on "Poshak Aahar, desh Ka Aadhar" was also conducted during which various resource persons spoke on related topics.
Among them, Associate professor, College of Nursing, RIMS, Dr..L.CMala spoke on "Nutrition Education: Adequate Diet for Healthy Life" while Dr S.Mema Devi, Pediatrician (Child Specialist), retd.Additional Director of Health Services, Government of Manipur on "Integrated Cycle of under nutrition and its preventive measures" .
The observance which will continue for a week would also be held all nine districts of the State.
