CCpur, October 31 2019:
The Zomi Chiefs Association has call on the Prime Minister to extend 6th Cchedule of the Constitution to the hill areas of the State saying other hill tribes too, like the Nagas, suffer discrimination and inherit problems like geographical isolation, inefficient administrative machinery, absence of viable infrastructure, poor financial inclusion and sensitive border.
A memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister also noted the slow progress of the political talks with SoO groups, UPF and KNO, and called for an early settlement of the talks.
'We earnestly request your honour to kindly intervene on the ongoing political talks between the Government and UPF & KNO so that peaceful and lasting solution is concluded at the earliest,' said the memo.
It added that there will ne no better time than the present to extend provisions of the 6th Schedule of the Constitution that recognizes the necessity for a separate political and administrative structure for the hill tribes, as the Government is engaging with UPF & KNO leadership and the Indo-Naga talk is at its concluding stage.
