Following the announcement of COVID-19 vaccination for 15 to 18 years old citizens of the country, the state government has made necessary preparation to start the vaccination from January 3 next year.
Informing this to The People's Chronicle, director (health) Dr K Rajo said that the state is setting the target of covering 1.72 lakh people in the age group of 15 to 18 years to prevent them from getting infected by the contagion and Covaxin vaccine will be used for the drive.
The vaccination will be done at one each centre in every district apart from district hospitals, RIMS and JNIMS.
According to Dr K Rajo, registration for the vaccination on COWIN portal will begin from January 1, 2022 and 28 days gap will be mandatory between the first and second dose.
He also said that DCs and CMOs of every district have been informed to ensure that the vaccination drive is carried out successfully.
Ailing people, however, will not be administered the vaccine and they could get the vaccine after complete recovery, he added.
While informing that administering of booster dose against COVID-19 will begin from January 10, 2022, Dr K Rajo said that booster dose will be given first to health care workers, frontline workers and elderly people who have crossed 60 years and having co-morbid condition.
The earlier Covishield vaccine will be used for booster dose and around 63,000 elderly people who have crossed 60 years will be given the booster dose.
According to Dr Rajo, Covaxin vaccine will be used for the first time in Manipur though it has been used in other states and there is nothing to fear of the vaccine.
As Omicron variant has been detected in the state, government is trying to give vaccine to people in 15-18 years age group at the earliest, he said and appealed to people particularly those in 15-18 years age group to get the COVID-19 vaccine at the earliest so as to stay safe from the contagion.
