Training & consultation prog held

FXB India Suraksha organised a training and consultation programme for journalists on child safety and human trafficking at its office in Singjamei Chongtham Leikai today.
During the event, MCPCR Member Keisham Pradipkumar spoke on "Journalistic ethics and responsibilities while reporting on children issues" while Chairperson, CWC Imphal West Thiyam Rajkishore talked on "Role on media vis a vis POCSO Act 2012, challenges and gaps".
Addressing the event, FXB India Suraksha Manipur project officer Khoinaijam Sunil Meitei said FXB India Suraksha, launched in 2015, is working to combat human trafficking and child sexual abuse in Manipur.
He said that FXB India Suraksha rescued 53 children from Jaipur in 2013 adding that, in order to strengthen child protection mechanism, FXBIS has been working closely with district administration, DCPUs, police, community members, youth groups, Church leaders, journalist, teachers and children in Imphal and Ukhrul as well.
Talking about today's event, he said that the training programme will enable the journalists to be thoroughly aware about the rule and regulations of reporting any news concerning human trafficking or child sexual abuse.
Sunil added that the consultation will help the journalists to know about the consequences or impacts of reporting such sensitive issues beyond the ethics and guidelines.
He informed that consultation programmes were also held in 2016, 2017 and 2018.Speaking on responsibilities and ethics of journalist while reporting such issues, MCPCR Member Pradipkumar said that it is against the law as per JJ Act 2015 to disclose the name or any source leading to the identity of a minor in reporting such sexual abuse or human trafficking incidents.
He said if any media found disclosing the name of minor, will face jail time for six months and imposition of a fine of Rs two lakh.
