Imphal, December 31 2017:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has appreciated the works rendered by the State journalists who have been disseminating daily news to the public against all odds.
Addressing media persons today at its office at Sagolband as part of its yearly 'Meet the Press' programme, DESAM president, M Angamba said that without the help of media, it is impossible to bring development in a society.
Mentioning the recent threat to AMWJU president by some politicians and burning of newspaper copies by a political party, he said that such kind of threat against freedom of media is very unfortunate.
He said that DESAM has been working tirelessly to uplift education in the society considering its values.
He maintained that media, the fourth pillar of democracy plays a pivotal role in shaping a society.
Expressing concern over the mushrooming of tuition and coaching centres in the State, he made an observation that the large number of tuition and coaching centres is spoiling formal education in schools and colleges.
There are many schools and coaching centres set up solely for business purposes.
DESAM is all set to monitor such institutes.
Appropriate action will be taken up against the authorities of such institutes, he said.
He sought cooperation from the public and media in finding out such educational institutes and coaching centres.
