Imphal to host first ever film fest on sports, dance

For the first time in the whole world, Imphal will be hosting a film festival based on sports and dance in January next year.
Announcing this, Director Manipur Films Development Corporation (MFDC) Dr K Sobita said that the 2nd Replay International Film Festival, 2012, which will be held in Imphal from January 11 to 15 next year, will screen only films related to sports and dances.
Speaking to media persons in a press meet held at the Preview Theatre of MFDC at Palace Gate, Dr K Sobita informed that in all 20 films including some short films will be screened during the five-day long festival.
All the films are from America and Indonesia.
The festival will be held at the JN Manipur Dance Academy Hall.
She further informed that four experts from USA and Indonesia will be attending the festival.
The main reason to host the exclusive festival on sports and dance is to expose the rich traditions of dance of Manipur and excellence in the field of games and sports.
The festival will help in promoting sports as well as in preserving the rich cultural tradition of dance and songs of the people in the state, she added, while expressing gratitude to the Director of the Film Festival L Somi Roy for his contribution towards organizing the festival.
It is said that a 10-member committee headed by Commissioner of Arts and Culture Dr RK Nimai has been formed for organizing the festival successfully.
Anybody can watch the films during the festival and there would be no entry fee.
Any individual who would like to participate in the workshops which will be held as part of the festival can register themselves at the office of MFDC.
Somi Roy, who also attended the press meet, said that the film festival is the first ever international film festival of its kind in the world.
Yoshiko Chuma and Alexandra Viets from USA and Yusuf Andibakhtiar from Indonesia will be attending the film festival and participating in the workshops.
'Romeo Juliet', a film based on football will be screened on the first day of the festival.
On the last day, 'Sangai: The Dancing Deer of Manipur' will be screened, he added.
