WAD lauds judgement of Session Court Thoubal

Imphal, December 29 2020: Women Action for Development (WAD), in a statement issued today, appreciated the judgement of the Session Court Thoubal district in connection with the 2010 case of rape and murder of a woman.

WAD also appealed to the Session Court Thoubal district to deliver stringent punishment to convict Irom Chaoren (40) of Thoubal Leishangthem Khong Manung, who was pronounced guilty of killing Rajeshori Aseibam, who was found dead in Imphal river near Chongtham Kona Litan Makhong in Imphal East district on June 27, 2010, after she had been missing for about 10 days.

WAD urged the Police Department to carry out effective investigations with timely submission of the charge sheets and to review similar pending cases.

The following are the pending cases of deceased women from 2010 to November 30, 2020said WAD and enumerated them as rape and murder-32, murder-173, suicide-150, suspicious deaths-107, Burnt to death-11, delivery deaths-30, death due to alleged medical negligence-8 .
