Thoubal, October 29 2016: Protest erupted during distribution of MGNREGA wages today at Tekcham Gram Panchayat under Wangjing-Tentha, our correspondent reports.

According to one job card holder, Tekcham GP Pradhan Langpoklakpam Phullojao distributed Rs 1150 as against Rs 2770 each transferred to the bank accounts of job card holders.

Even as the job card holders were informed about the amount transferred to their respective bank accounts, they were not allowed to draw money from their own accounts.

Withdrawal of money was entirely handled by the Pradhan.

The job card holders said they will not accept the money distributed by the Pradhan until the confusion is cleared.

They have also demanded to handle their own bank passbooks and job cards further on.

"We have also heard that 3% of our MGNREGS wages are deducted to pay the Gram Panchayat staff.

This is unreasonable.

We demand clarification from the Pradhan", a job card holder said.
