BSNL GM thrashes staff; protest begins

Imphal, October 29 2015: Employees of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Manipur Branch on Thursday launched a strike after the General Manager (GM) of the branch allegedly assaulted one officer of the same branch.

During an interaction with media persons on Thursday, Forum of BSNL Unions and Associations Manipur Chairman W Dinesh said that on Wednesday at round 5 pm, General Manager J Lunkim called BSNL, Manipur Branch Planning-1, Assistant Director L Roben to his chamber and physically assaulted and thrashed him.

L Roben is a sincere officer who will never speak against his seniors, said Dinesh while strongly condemning the incident.

Dinesh further said that such incident was not the first time and the Union had already issued warnings against the GM before.

The Union demanded that the GM should be transferred or disciplinary action initiated against him.

Other forms of agitation will continue, said Dinesh.
