Abductors nabbed, rapists jailed

Imphal, March 29 2012: Out of the five accused involved in the abduction of a salesman in a chicken centre at Churachandpur for a ransom demand of Rs 2 lakhs, police have so far arrested four of them.

Kh Ibungochaoba of Churachandpur Khumujamba Meetei Leikai, who is a salesman in a chicken centre at Churachandpur market, was abducted on March 24 .

The four arrested accused abductors have been identified as Marin Shanglen Chothe (30) of New Wangparel village under Chandel district who is an AR personnel, KNO/KLA cadre Satkhitheng Kipgen alias Timothy (31), Letkhotinthang (27) and Zousen Nal (25).Shanglen Chothe and Satkhitheng Kipgen were arrested on March 25 by Churachandpur police while Letkhotinthang and Zousen surrendered to 11 GR at Khuga Dam on March 27.All four of them have been subsequently remanded to police custody for 10 days.

On the other hand, the four persons who alleged raped a tribal woman from Khoupum Nungleiban on the night of March 22 at Keinou Awang Leikai under Tamenglong district have been sent to jail after they were produced before the court of CJM Bishnupur yesterday.

The four alleged rapists identified as Laikhuram Rojit of Porompat; 1st IRB Havildar Ch Ibomcha of Thongju Boroi Makhong; Salam Bijen of Uripok and 1st IRB personnel Ksh Kennedy of Kongpal Chanam Leikai intercepted the woman who was on her way to Imphal for selling chillies and gang-raped her at gunpoint at a place near Keinou Awang Leikai and later abandoned her at Irom Meijrao.

Police have recovered one country-made pistol from them.

Following the disclosure of the alleged rapists, one SI Tiken of Bishnupur Commandos has been placed under suspension and a departmental enquiry had been ordered against him for providing the pistol to the gang.
