Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight observance launched

With the aim to achieve 'zero death due to childhood diarrhoea", Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight observance was launched all over the State from today.
The main function of launching the fortnight long observance was organised by Directorate of Family Welfare Services at JNIMS Hospital where Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing called upon all concerned for concerted efforts towards achieving the goal of 'zero death due to childhood diarrhoea' under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) .
Speaking as chief guest of the launching programme, Phungzathang observed that timely preventive action is the best thing for avoiding any crisis.
Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Dr Suhel Akhtar, Director of Family Welfare Dr Okram Ibomcha, ho is also the Director of State Mission NRHM; Director of Health Services Dr A Bijoy and Medical Superintendent of JNIMS Hospital Dr W Gopimohan were also present on the occasion.
It may be noted here that during the first week of the observance from 28th July to 2nd of August, ASHAs would conduct home visit and distribute ORS (Oral rehydration solution) to each household having children under the age of 5 years.
Demonstration on preparation of ORS and Diarhoea management, establishment of ORS � Zinc corners could also be conducted at district hospitals, CHCs and PHCs, hand washing at Schools for primary and middle school students.
During second week, main focus would be on infant and young child feeding, growth monitoring by ASHA and Anganwdi workers, counselling on early initiation to breastfeeding, detection of undernourished children, setting up of IYCF ( infant and young child feeding) and counselling sites, referral and medical management of under nourished children, etc.
In Chandel district, the fortnight long observance was launched during a function organised by District Health Society, Chandel at the multipurpose hall of the Mini Secretariat with CNPO President Ws Kanral Anal, CMO/Mission Director Birachandra Singh and Vice President NPF Ps Ngamnung as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
To mark the occasion, Primary and Middle School students from various educational institutions of Chandel also took out a rally from Maha Union Govt Higher Secondary School to the Chandel DC complex.
The launching programme of today was also attended by district govt officials including Addl CEO ADC/CDL Th.Kothar, ICDS officials, medical officers, staffs and officials of the medical and NRHM, representatives from the civil bodies including CNPO, NGOs and school teachers.
Similarly in Tamenglong, the programme was launched by District Health Mission Society at Tamenglong District Hospital in the presence of C Arthur W, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and RK Ragaisin, CEO of Tamenglong Autonomous District Council as chief guest and guest of honour respectively.
On the occasion, Dr Nathanael Daimai, MO District Hospital Tamenglong and Dr Bonthaoliu K Gangmei, MO of District Hospital Tamenglong demonstrated on "Diarrhoea and ORS" and "infant and Young child feeding" respectively.
The Intensified Diarrhoea Control Fortnight was also launched in Bishnupur district by L Lolindro Singh, Chairperson of Bishnupur Municipal Council during a function presided over by Dr Ng Hemantakumar, Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur and attended by L Suranjoy, Secretary of People Resource Development Association, Bishnupur as Guest of honour.
