Imphal, July 27 2013 :
There is an urgent need for translation of Puyas (ancient manuscripts of Manipur) into a simpler form of Meeteilon or any other language widely known by people such as English in order to remove ambiguities surrounding the history of Manipur, former Deputy Chief Minister Dr L Chandramani has stated.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the inaugural function of a two-day discussion programme on Puyas organized by Manipur State Archives at Hotel Imphal here yesterday.
Chandramani further said that most people tend to involve in dry arguments without having substantial knowledge on the subject matter.
Scholars and experts must strive to translate all Puyas into simpler languages so that common people can read well about the history of their ancestors.
President of the function, Director of Art and Culture Dr Kh Sobita endorsed the suggestion of Dr Chandramani and assured that the translation works would be taken up as soon as possible.
Three books on the history of ancient Manipur were also released during the inaugural function.
