Kakching, January 27 2021:
The office of Kakching Municipal Council was locked and collection of garbage was also banned from today onwards.
Secretary Shanta of Ward Development Committee Skilled and Unskilled Labour Association (WDCSULA) told the media at a press conference held at the office of the Municipal Council today that, the wages of the all the labour has not been paid of the last 19 months and the association will continue the protest until all the wages are paid.
Chairperson of Kakching Municipal Council, Naorem Sanjitkumar said that the cease work strike taken up by WDCSULA is really unfortunate as the Municipal Council has been working closely with the State Government to have all the wages released.
He added that after rounds of talks, the Government had released wages of 9 months but unfortunately Lokayukta has frozen the accounts of the Ward Development Committee.
This has made council unable to pay the wages of all the labourers, he added.
Naorem Sanjitkumar also said that two meetings were called for nomination of 2 members each of Ward Finance Sub-Committee and Information and Steatites Sub-Committee, which are mandatory under the Municipal Community Participation Act 2010 .
However no representatives responded to the meeting and that has delayed the process to remove the frozen state of the account.
