Dr Rita to assume charge on Tuesday

Imphal, April 26 2015 : Dr S Rita, head of department of pharmacology department shall become the Director in-charge of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal on Tuesday, according to official sources.

This is for the first time in the history of RIMS which was established in 1972 that a lady faculty will be in the chair of the Director.

This is perhaps unprecedented and unparalleled in the North Eastern medical colleges that a lady faculty will be the head of the institute.

She will be in office for six months which is likely to be extended if no regular director is appointed in the meantime.

During this period the union health ministry will initiate process to appoint a regular director with the approval of the Cabinet Committee on Appointments.

There will be nation-wide advertisements and selection interview will be held by the health ministry after short listing the deserving candidates.

After relieving Dr Sekharjit of the post following some CBI inquiry Dr Arunkumar was made the director in charge.

The health ministry had made Dr Rita the next director in charge.

Soft spoken and with a friendly disposition, Dr Rita has always maintained a low profile.

Though she could have assumed charge from Friday itself she relaxed for some days.
