Imphal, August 25 2020:
Putting an end to the rift which erupted after the burning of St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sugnu last year, KSO (Kuki Students' Organisation), Chandel and School Authority has reached a settlement.
It may be recalled that the said school was burnt by some miscreants on April 25, 2019 while the school was being locked by the student body in a protest against disciplinary actions taken up by the school against some students.
Following the incident, the school authority had charged that the student body unit was responsible for the arsonary and had lodged a complaint to the police.
Acting on the complaint, police had also arrested some office bearers of the student body and an investigation was conducted.
The police, however, had failed to find any evidence for the involvement of the student body in the sad incident.
Even as the case in connection with the fire incident was closed, there has been discord between the student body and the school authority.
But the two parties have decided to settle the differences by signing a pact today to ensure everlasting support and cordiality in presence of representatives of many CSOs and Water Resources Minister Letpao Haokip.
The pact was signed by the president and vice president of KSO, Chandel as the first party and chairman and secretary of Parish Pastor Council, St Joseph School as the second party with Letpao Haokip; MDC Ngamkholal; Nemneiling Baite, president of Kuki Human Rights and John D Lhungdim, vice chairman of Kuki Chiefs' Association, Gunpi Block signing the same as witnesses.
Letpao Haokip also expressed satisfaction over the two parties coming to the same table and settling the issue amicably.
Expressing that the settlement was brought after many consultations with many sections of the society and considering their suggestions, the Minister also appealed to support the School in all possible ways to ensure a bright future for the students of the region.
