Assam Rifles organises tree plantation drives

Imphal, July 25 2022:
Mantripukhri and
Keithelmanbi battalions of
IGAR (South) organised tree
plantation drives at various
locations including Company
Operating Bases at Yaingangpokpi in Kangpokpi district,
COB Chingmeirong, COB Sawombung and COB Singjamei as
well as at villages in Bishnupur,
Thoubal and Kamjong districts
on Sunday.
According to PRO IGAR (S),
the tree plantation drive was
aimed to make people aware
about the importance of trees
in human lives and to save the
environment.
Planting trees
is vital to maintain a balance
in the eco-system, the PRO
said adding that as part of the
event, an informative lecture
was also delivered by Keithelmanbi battalion commandant
on "Importance of Tree plantation and its benefits".
A total of 250 individuals
including 50 locals attended
the events and planted 1750
saplings of multiple varieties including fruit and flower
saplings, so as to achieve dual
purpose of environment protection and soil conservation,
the PRO said.
Shangshak Battalion of IGAR
(South) also organised a mass
tree plantation drive at Shangshak and COBs of the Battalion
in Ukhrul district on Saturday.
According to PRO IGAR (S),
the plantation drive was carried
out to promote afforestation
and creating clean and green
environment to reduce impacts
of global warming.
A total of
10,000 saplings were planted
at various locations, the PRO
said, adding that the event was
focussed on imbibing the importance of trees and spreading
awareness amongst the troops
on saving earth by planting
more number of trees.
