Tangkhul community condemns 'killing', to resist 'colonisation'

Tangkhul community has finally condemned the incident at Finch Corner on July 12 in which the Ukhrul Autonomous District (ADC) member Ngalangzar Malue was shot dead by armed assailants.
In a press communiqu� issued on Friday evening, Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) general secretary K.Dickson stated "� the Tangkhul people are against any wanton killing and therefore condemn such acts" of taking away the life of Ngalangzar Malue, who was a Tangkhul Naga elected member from ADC Phungyar constituency.
"Under the Tangkhul Naga custom and tradition, for the holistic interest of the people, no death sentence is awarded and the act of ostracizing and social boycott is the most serious penalty accorded and is only called into effect at times of the gravest exceptional offense," it declared.
The condemnation note today was issued, on behalf of the Tangkhul Naga People, from the TNL secretariat office and also endorsed by Tangkhul Naga Wungnao Long, Tangkhul Shanao Long, Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long.
TNL general secretary also said that the release has been issued to clear "malicious information campaign by vested interest�with regard to the killing of one Mr..MNgalangzar, ADC at Finch Corner�" .
The statement reiterated that "�according to Tangkhul Naga custom and tradition, all ADC members�were ostracized and socially boycotted by the Tangkhul Naga people" based on the decision taken by United Naga Council (UNC) in July 2010 .
Further it added the ADC elections of 2010 are declared "null and void" and that "any association with the ADC members shall be prohibited" .
Meanwhile, in a press briefing this evening, TNL president Artax Shimray argued that the imposition of prohibitory order and militarization in Ukhrul is a "direct colonization by government of Manipur", and declared that it would "resist" such move to all extent.
He asserted that the ongoing movement in Ukhrul district is focused on strengthening Indo-Naga peace process, and also to voice against militarization and prohibitory order in Naga areas.
To realize the journey of common hope of the Nagas, TNL chief said the Tangkhul organisations are working in close hand with the UNC.
While appealing the public not to indulge in any adverse campaigns, he stated the democratic protest in various forms would continue to defend for the Nagas rights.
