Imphal, June 25 2021:
Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) has urged all political parties in the state to give more importance to containing the current Covid-19 pandemic rather than pursuing poll related activities which might promote public gathering.
In a statement, PPCM urged political parties and all concerned to refrain from any activities that might cause disunity among the people engaged in fighting Covid-19 in different localities.
It stated that the public are facing immense hardships due to the pandemic and related restrictions.
Though the government is taking various measures to fight the pandemic, the ground situation is far from being satisfactory.
Conditions of hospitals and Covid Care Centres have improved significantly but people still feel a sense of insecurity there.
AIIMS director Dr Randeep Guleria recently warned of a 3rd wave within six to eight weeks, the statement mentioned and asked if the government has taken up necessary initiatives to fight the pandemic.
The state is reporting high number of new positive cases and recovery rate is low and vaccination speed is very low.
It then urged the government to complete first dose vaccination of the state by the end of July and also called upon the MLAs to take proactive role in ensuring total vaccination in their respective constituencies.
PPCM further urged the government to install required equipment in the Covid Hospital at Langthabal.
Covid Hospital for children should be developed in a way to make it look like a classroom like those in Maharashtra.
Instead of building a new hospital, the government could also utilise one or two schools for this purpose.
Recruit additional doctors, nurses and other support staff, and give more emphasis on institutional isolation instead of home isolation, the statement added.
It further urged MLAs to take lead role in providing mobile treatment and consultancy service to non-Covid patients in their respective constituencies and stressed that the government should convene an all-political party meeting by adhering to Covid relevant SOPs to ensure cooperation of all in fighting the pandemic.
It then urged all political parties to keep aside election related activities for the time being and focus on containing the pandemic.
The government should also upgrade the testing booths stationed at Mao and Jiribam and ensure testing of all entrants irrespective of having negative certificates or not, it added.
Asserting that following the Covid relevant SOPs and appropriate behaviour are a must to fight the pandemic, PPCM appealed to all concerned to follow the protocols and fight the crisis unitedly while extending support to the frontline warriors.
