Ex-DC held for misappropriation

Ex-Deputy Commissioner of Tengnoupal district Abujam Tombikanta Singh has been arrested by police in connection with misappropriation of public money.
After he was arrested yesterday, Tombikanta was produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate First Class, Chandel today and the Court remanded him to police custody for eight days.
Sources informed that Tombikanta was arrested in connection with misappropriation of a huge amount in the process of awarding compensation to landowners affected by expansion of Pallel-Moreh road.
Acting on an instruction of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Tombikanta was arrested by a combined team of Imphal West police and Tengnoupal police from Sangaiprou yesterday.
There was a complaint against Tombikanta that he swindled over Rs two crore in cahoots with some individuals in the process of awarding compensation of land owners affected by expansion of Pallel-Moreh road.
Based on the same complaint, the Home Ministry asked the State Government to take up necessary action against the ex-DC, said the sources.
