Two killed in factional clash, ZUF condoles

Two persons were killed in a clash between two factions of ZUF in Noney district on Monday.
According to police, the encounter took place on Monday evening around 6:30 pm near Longmai Part -5 under Noney Police Station of the district.
The bodies of the deceased militants were retrieved and handed them over to their families after completing necessary procedures.
The victims were identified as Sumgailung Gonmei (24), s/o Siamroi Gonmei of Namdailong village, Cachar, Assam and Keineliang Panmei (28), s/o Huhiampou Panmei of Ramlalong, Tamenglong district.
After hearing heavy exchange of gunfire that lasted about 20 minutes, womenfolks of Longmai-5 village went to the spot to find if there were any casualties but they could not locate any bodies.
Search of the encounter site on Tuesday by troops of Noney Battalion of 21 Sector Assam Rifles/IGAR (East) led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle along with 32 rounds of 7.62 mm and one round 5.56 mm.
According to a source, the search operation was carried out after inter-factional clash between ZUF (J) and ZUF (K) in which two cadres died.
The search party recovered arms and ammunition from the area but there is no report of arrest of any cadre from either side.
The recovered items have been handed over to Noney Police Station for further investigation, it said.
Meanwhile, the armed Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) has expressed deep condolence over the demise of the two cadres during the clash.
According to a ZUF statement issued by its information & publicity secretary Hojam Taimei, while confirming identity of the deceased duo as S/S sergeant Sumgailung Gonmei and lance corporal Keineliang Panmei affirmed that those guilty will be punished accordingly.
The statement further said that demise of two cadres is a great loss for Zeliangrong community and both of them did great works for the community by serving in Zeliangrong Tigers Force.
The outfit also extended its sincere gratitude to Longmai Pei (Village Court), Longmai Village Authority, Longmai Women Society, Longmai Youth League and Longmai Students' Organisation for extending help in retrieving the bodies.
