Cabinet approves SWAN, upgrade of HCs

Imphal, November 24 2021:
A meeting of the state cabinet chaired by chief minister N Biren on Wednesday approved extension of State Wide Area Network (SWAN), a project for providing free internet connectivity through public Wi-Fi system in government colleges, higher secondary schools, high schools and hospitals.
The cabinet meeting held at the CM's secretariat hall from 5 pm also approved shifting of Arapti polling station number 6/12 and 6/13 in Keirao assembly constituency from Lilong Municipal Council (Thoubal) to Imphal East Zila Parishad.
The matter was taken up as an unlisted agenda.
Mention may be made here that Keirao MLA L Rameshwar had earlier requested chief minister N Biren in this regard citing inconvenience faced by the people of the areas under the two polling stations and CM Biren had also given assurance for the same.
Wednesday's cabinet meeting further approved setting up a Manipur Technology Innovation Hub by Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology, Technology Business Incubator University, Bhubaneshwar.
The cabinet also approved upgrade of existing as well as establishment of new healthcare centres in Churachandpur, Ukhrul Senapati, Pherzawl and Kangpokpi districts.
The state cabinet also approved framing 'The Manipur MBBS-BDS-BASLP (Selection of Candidates for Nomination) Rules, 2021' by striking down the existing Manipur MBBS-BDS Entrance Examination (Selection of candidates for nomination) Rules, 2004 .
It also approved releasing of the pending dues for catering service providers in relation with Covid-19 .
The lease agreement between state government and JNIMS authority for establishment of a cancer hospital in JNIMS was also approved in the meeting.
In the agenda for tourism department, the cabinet approved extension of lease for running Hotel Imphal by Classic Hotel Group for six months; and to set up a 5-star hotel by inviting interest from national bidders.
The cabinet also approved to bring back Thanlon sub-division into Churachandpur district and post an additional deputy commissioner at Guite Kual if 75 per cent of the people of the sub-division agree with it.
It also approved finalisation of the draft rules under section 7 and 8 of the Manipur Conservation of Paddy Land and Wetlands Act, 2014.The permitted land area for conversion from paddy land to homestead land will be 250 square feet jn rural area and 500 square feet in urban areas.
