CoNE celebrates 10th anniv, distributes essential items

Community Network for Empowerment (CoNE) celebrated its 10th foundation day at its Keishamthong Hodam Leirak office on Thursday.
A release by president Nalinikanta Rajkumar said as part of the celebration, a CoNE team led by its secretary RK Komoljit Singh and treasurer Maibam Kenedy distributed medicines, sanitizers and other kitchen and household items to the inmates of Old Age Home, Mongshangei Makha Leikai, Imphal.
The team also distributed PPE kits and sanitizers to the medical staff of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).
CoNE which was established on June 23, 2011 is a state level network of Community Based Organisations (CBOs) of people who use drugs in Manipur.
It aims at contributing to the health responses towards drug use including HIV and Viral Hepatitis and address human rights violation issues faced by people using drugs at the state and national level, said the release.
It further informed that CoNE has working with various stakeholders including the State Health Department, Social Welfare Department, Manipur State AIDS Control Society, Manipur State Human Rights Commission and Manipur State Legal Services Authority for the past many years for the welfare of the public in general and the marginalised community in particular.
"This year, due to the corona virus outbreak and subsequent lockdown, CoNE has not been able to celebrate in a grand manner as planned.
Nevertheless, we celebrated in the best way we could and in the process provided help and supported few of the destitute people as well as the medical fraternity during this time of the pandemic," added the release.
