Kangpokpi, May 24 2021:
Nemcha Kipgen, the lone woman MLA in the BJP-led coalition government in Manipur with medical background, has been setting examples in the fight against the COVID-19 since its first wave in the district and her assembly constituency in particular.
With the second wave sweeping the state and hitting hard Kangpokpi, MLA Nemcha yet again came with new strategies to combat the dreaded second wave of the pandemic in her constituency.
Chairing another review meeting with the district administration, police, medical department and area/village level COVID Task Forces at Conference Hall, DC office Kangpokpi on Monday, Nem-cha Kipgen introduced various strategies to be adopted by the district administration, medical department, police and COVID Task Forces.
During the meeting, the area/village level COVID Task Forces which were constituted by MLA Nemcha Kipgen in respect of Kangpokpi Assembly Constituency reported their activities carried out in close coordination with the district administration in ensuring COVID guidelines and SOPs in their respective areas.
MLA Nemcha announced temporary appointment of a COVID Task Force ambulance driver to evacuate asymptomatic patients from their homes to Community Home Isolation Centre at BJP Office.
The local MLA said that she will bear the monthly salary of the ambulance driver while conveying that the state government will provide one anaesthesiologist shortly for the COVID Care Centre at Leikop in the district.
She also set another example of humanity during the second wave of the pandemic COVID-19 by assuring that she will bear the cost of food for any COVID patients from Kangpokpi AC who genuinely could not afford food while staying at COVID Care Centre.
No COVID patients and family members who are below poverty line should be worried about diets at COVID Care Centre, she added.
Till now, there is no provision of mess catering to the need of COVID patients at COVID Care Centre.
However, the Kangpokpi district administration had for the past few days served food to all the COVID patients at COVID Care Centre, Leikop but decided to give the responsibility back to patient's family owing to financial constraints and increasing number of COVID patients.
Catering issue at COVID Care Centre and Community Home Isolation Centre for Kpi AC was also discussed in the meeting and the local MLA suggested that any willing organisation be allowed to open centralized mess service with full preventive measures at the two centres so that safety for both patient's family and public is maintained.
"Human lives is more important than anything else during this health crisis, so let us not hesitate to sacrifice ourselves to serve humankind during this pandemic", said MLA Nemcha while exhorting COVID Task Force of her constituency in the meeting.
She also assured of rewarding any COVID Task Force of her constituency which helps in reducing the surge of positive cases in their area through effective enforcement of COVID appropriate behaviour.
Nemcha then instructed the medical department to equip the COVID Task Force with basic knowledge and skill of preventive measures.
The MLA also asked the COVID Task Force to help the medical department in the vaccination programme by collecting Aadhaar cards of those 45 years and above in their respective areas for vaccination, adding that the respective area chiefs and village authorities will arrange required infrastructure, food and accommodation for the health workers and other frontline workers engaging in the vaccination programme.
DC Kangpokpi Somorjit Salam said that formation of COVID Task Force in Kangpokpi AC by the local MLA prior to the announcement by the state government immensely helped the district administration, medical department and police in ensuring COVID appropriate behaviour, etc.
He further said that following the announcement of formation of village level COVID Task Force by the government, Rs 1000 each will be paid to each COVID Task Force per day.
The IAS officer said that the district administration had started a campaign of 'COVID Free Village' in the district with an aim to give the essence of responsibility and pride to all the villages to become COVID free village.
He also emphasised the need for timely identification of the virus infection and treatment, pointing out that most cases of fatality in Kangpokpi were due to late identification of infection and late treatment.
The meeting also decided that the three MLAs of Kangpokpi district shall provide fuel to the fire sub-station.
Meanwhile, MLA Nemcha Kipgen provided more protective gears including PPE, masks, gloves, sanitizers, etc to the district administration, MO in-charge of District Hospital Kangpokpi and Kalapahar PHC, Police Department, Fire Service and the seven COVID Task Forces of Kangpokpi AC.
